Discovery time

This morning we were treated to Mohamed's mum, Habiba, sharing her skills in henna painting. Some of us were lucky enough to get a design on our hands. Miss Browne then dried them with the hair dryer. It took a long time and it got a bit hot too sometimes! We love our designs and look forward to Haniba coming back again another day.
Thanks for sharing your skills with us Habiba!

Numbers before and after

The hexagon maths group have been learning to say the number that comes 'before'.  Today they worked with a partner to find the numbers to put on our game board.  Some of us found it tricky to work with a partner and next time we need to make sure that we are helping each other.  This will also help us to check our work and our thinking.  We learnt today that a partner helps us with our learning so we should try to work together to finish the activity.  We would be showing respect, tolerance and excellence.

Bye Keeson

Today we said goodbye to Keeson.  He is moving to Kaiapoi which is too far to travel to come to our school.  Tyler said "Remember all the good times we had Keeson."  Lots of us said "Bye Keeson, we will miss you".  Miss Browne is going to miss how compassionate Keeson is and how respectful.  He always opened doors for other people and arrived at school with a big smile on his face everyday.  We wish you good luck at your new school Keeson.
 Hugs for our friend Keeson!

Discovery Time

We had our first Discovery Time with our friends from Room 3.  We are learning to show respect.  We started by watching this video of Gilbert the Goat.  We hope that we don't see any Gilbert Goat's at school.

We had a lot of different activities to choose from.  There were bubbles, chalk, the sand and water trays outside.  In Room 2 we could do lots of different activities that exercised our fingers, including weaving, making pom pom caterpillars, building with foam bricks, and making puzzles.  We could also help to improve our environment by gardening in our community garden and making concrete tiles to go in our international garden.

Monday Reflection Time

Today we talked about showing respect to others.  Miss Browne asked us to use a sentence starter at reflection time and it was "Today I helped a friend..."
We had 5 people in our class who were wonderful friends who showed respect to others today and could tell us about it.  Well done to Medhi, Shontai, Prapti, Tyler and Kaiden.

Today I helped a friend at lunchtime by getting help from a teacher.  Medhi

Today I helped a friend when someone got sore, I told a duty teacher.  Shontai

Today I helped a friend and I got a cool kids award.  Prapti

Today I helped a friend by giving them a high five.  Tyler

Today I helped a friend by telling a person to let go of my friend.  Kaiden

Aoraki Mount Cook is on Hine Taiao, our carving to show us that we need to show respect at all times.

Stars in Room 2

We had our first school assembly today.  Lily received our first certificate for showing respect.  She listens carefully in class, follows instructions and is a great class member.  We are very proud of you Lily!

We also have a handwriting star of the day and the first one for this year was awarded to Keeson.  Congratulations Keeson on trying to show your very best work.  That shows excellence - one of our values.  We are very proud of you!

Elgrego

On Wednesday we went to a show in our school hall called El Grego.  He had amazing magic tricks. He could make real birds come out of the smallest containers.  We were all watching very carefully to see where they came from.  He taught us about our values and how to be a good friend.  We enjoyed watching his show a lot!
