Waitresses at Work

Our waitresses this week at the Discovery Time Cafe were amazing!  First they got our onion dip ready.  Spot how collaborative they are, helping each other to solve problems and then make sure that everyone has a turn.
Then they looked after their customers so well.  They showed them to a seat, explained about the onion dip and the hummus and then checked to see that the customers were enjoying their food and time in the cafe.  After all of that, they even did the dishes!  And with big smiles on their faces.
Congratulations girls on being such wonderful waitresses.
We had some great chatty customers too that gave great feedback on the dips.  It was a split about which one was the best this week.
Come back next week to see what the new menu contains.

Working together

Today we worked together to match the Little Critters with their t-shirts.  They have a capital letter on the Critter and the t shirt has the lower case letter.  We used an alphabet card to help us to match them together.  We were super proud of ourselves!

Energy

We have been learning about Energy.  Last week we found out that electricity can be used to make heat energy.  We made toast and milo.  This week we have used a dehydrator.  A dehydrator can use heat energy to dry out food so it will last a long time.  Mohamed thought it was like a heater because it pushes warm air through the machine to dry the food.  We cut up some apples, bananas, pears and kiwifruit to dry in the dehydrator.  It has been working all day at school.  We will check in the morning to see what our fruit looks and tastes like.

Energy

Today we split into two groups.  One group made milo and found out about heat energy.  It heats up the milo.  We put in a marshmallow as well.
The other group make toast. They used a fry pan and a toaster to see which one was the fastest.  We used the ipads to time which one was the fastest.  We thought that the electricity heats up the frypan and the toaster and turns it turns into heat.  The frypan took 4.40 to cook the bread both sides.  The toaster took 2.30 to cook 2 whole pieces.  We think this means that the toaster has more energy than the fry pan.
Tomorrow we get to swap over our groups.
