Energy

Today we split into two groups.  One group made milo and found out about heat energy.  It heats up the milo.  We put in a marshmallow as well.
The other group make toast. They used a fry pan and a toaster to see which one was the fastest.  We used the ipads to time which one was the fastest.  We thought that the electricity heats up the frypan and the toaster and turns it turns into heat.  The frypan took 4.40 to cook the bread both sides.  The toaster took 2.30 to cook 2 whole pieces.  We think this means that the toaster has more energy than the fry pan.
Tomorrow we get to swap over our groups.

Shape Up!

We have been learning about shapes in maths.  We can identify lots of 2D shapes like triangles, squares, oblongs, circles, and even pentagons, hexagons and octagons.  We have been challenging ourselves to identify 3D shapes.  These are fat shapes and they are great for building different things.  Check out our cool buildings that we made in cooperative groups.

Fizz, Bang, Boom, Whizz, Pop!

We began some new learning about Energy today.  We were in small groups learning about what each of the words 'fizz', 'bang', 'boom', 'whizz' and 'pop' mean.  We had some different experi
ments and activities to complete and then we had to choose one person to record our thoughts on the ipad using the selfie function.  We still need to do more learning about these words as we are still a little confused about what they mean.  We think they are all sounds but we are unsure which sounds goes with which word.  Can anybody help us with their ideas?

Discovery Time with Montana Early Learning Centre

Today we had Montana Early Learning Centre join us for Discovery Time.  We hope they enjoyed all the creative activities that they could join in with.  We had a great time and learnt how to improve our own ideas.

Our Discovery Stars.  Savanna made a beautiful box decorated inside and out for her Mum and Connor worked solidly throughout Discovery Time to complete his necklace, carefully choosing the parts and cutting them which gave others ideas of what they could do with the straws and wool.  Congratulations to you both.

Class report at Assembly

It was our turn to share some of our learning at assembly.  We hope you enjoy our class report.

Assembly Stars

Kingston introduced his brother, Connor, to the whole school at our assembly.  We welcomed Connor into our class just before the holidays but now he has received his certificate!  Alizae was also pulled out of the Cool Kids Awards and will receive a hot chocolate with Mr Bateman.  We are so proud of you Alizae for doing awesome things in the playground that show our values.  Ka pai!

Mother's Day Celebration

Last Friday we invited all the special ladies in our lives to come along to school to celebrate how special they are.  We welcomed them to our shared space, introduced them, gave them a pikelet and a cup of tea or coffee.  We then made a photo frame and had a photo with them before showing them some of the activities that we can do at school.  We then sang a song and invited them to join in with one of our favourites.  After that it was time for them to leave and it was our lunchtime.  Some of our visitors stayed for lunch and even had a play in the playground.  We really enjoyed having our special ladies at school with us.  Thanks for coming, we hope you had a great time too!
