Fizz, Bang, Boom, Whizz, Pop!

We began some new learning about Energy today.  We were in small groups learning about what each of the words 'fizz', 'bang', 'boom', 'whizz' and 'pop' mean.  We had some different experi
ments and activities to complete and then we had to choose one person to record our thoughts on the ipad using the selfie function.  We still need to do more learning about these words as we are still a little confused about what they mean.  We think they are all sounds but we are unsure which sounds goes with which word.  Can anybody help us with their ideas?

Numbers before and after

The hexagon maths group have been learning to say the number that comes 'before'.  Today they worked with a partner to find the numbers to put on our game board.  Some of us found it tricky to work with a partner and next time we need to make sure that we are helping each other.  This will also help us to check our work and our thinking.  We learnt today that a partner helps us with our learning so we should try to work together to finish the activity.  We would be showing respect, tolerance and excellence.

Fendalton Library

On Friday we walked to Fendalton Library because our school library can't be used at the moment. We had a great time and have some stories to share with you tomorrow.

Keeson's writing

We think Keeson has drawn a great bird with his writing today.  He listened to the sounds and wrote down the ones he could hear. He is a successful writer in room 2.

What a writer!

Medhi is such a super learner, he was practising writing some words before school yesterday!  We think he is showing our values of Integrity and Excellence.  Great writing Mehdi!

Caterpillars and Butterflies

Today some of the children were wondering about our butterfly and where Miss Browne had found the eggs to put onto our plant.  We had a look at these videos.  Where do you think the eggs came from?

Kitty Cat

Shontai and Mohamed were practising their reading today using Photobooth.  Miss Browne only showed them once and look what they can do!  They need to work out what their next step is to improve their reading and then they can video themselves again.  Great team work!

Drawing

Yesterday we continued with learning about drawing in art.  We have learnt about the different types of lines - straight, curvy, fat, skinny, smooth and zig zag.  We are using these in our art works and noticing them in other art works as well.  We used our new skills to colour in a koru shape which is the beginning of some fancy art work with curvy lines around it but you will have to come back next week to see what they look like when they are finished!

Number learning

We are learning how to recognise and form the numbers to 10.  We made the numbers with playdough and then stuck the correct number of sticks into them to match.

Sustainability

We are learning about sustainability in our investigations. On the 19th of February we put a bean seed and an apricot stone into a jar to see if anything happens when we water it...look further up our posts to see if anything happened to these.

Training Teachers

We have been very busy doing a lot of different learning in our class. The next few posts are things that we have been up to while we haven't been posting anything on our blog! We had some visitors from the University of Canterbury. There was a group of people who are learning to be teachers. It was their second day at their school and they got to visit us, watch us doing our handwriting and then read to us under the trees.
