Discovery Time Cafe

This week the cafe opened with two items on the menu - warm milo and juice.  Waitresses showed customers to the table, took their orders and delivered their order, checking that they enjoyed their drink.  Conversation was flowing this week with stories from some very busy weekends.

Porridge playdough was also a hit this week along with our new puzzles.  What an interesting cafe we have!

Working together

Today we worked together to match the Little Critters with their t-shirts.  They have a capital letter on the Critter and the t shirt has the lower case letter.  We used an alphabet card to help us to match them together.  We were super proud of ourselves!

Super Writers

This morning we wrote our own sentences.  First we thought of our own idea.  We drew a picture of our favourite animals.  We used the sentence starter "I like ..." and told a partner our favourite animal in a sentence.  This was the sentence that we tried to write.  We worked together on the first part and then helped each other to find the starting letter for our animals.

Crusaders versus England

The Press newspaper gave us all a cardboard shield because The Crusaders were playing rugby against England.  We had to tear the cardboard from around the shield and the part that we hold.  We then had to thread the pieces together to hold it all together.  We loved making our shields!

Wind Energy

We are learning about different types of energy.  We are making windmills.  We had to work hard on our cutting skills.  There are lots of concentrating faces while we are doing this.

Writing Together

We are very proud of this group of students who are learning their alphabet sounds.  We all tried to write the sentence 'Look at the big ball'.  We worked together to find the sounds for our sentence on our alphabet card, put the counter on it and then copy the letter onto our whiteboard.  Some of them were working hard to try and put spaces in between their words.
